Injury Accidents Can Showcase the Heroic Nature of Our Citizens

On May 16 a Colorado Springs man was riding his motorcycle along Highway 115. He didn’t know that he was headed straight toward an event that would change his life forever. That’s what we so often forget about accidents – they’re unpredictable. Without a moments warning we find ourselves at the mercy of a wreck, and when you’re a motorcyclist, you can find yourself seriously injured, in need of help, but no way to get it.

That’s what happened to the rider as he rode along the southwest side of the Springs. A van turned in front of him, and before he could react, he slammed into it. He was thrown from the bike and that’s where his memory of the wreck ended. That could have easily been the end of the story for the biker, but someone else made sure that wasn’t the case.

A young man was the first to rush to the injured rider’s side. When he arrived he found him “unconscious” and “having trouble breathing.” The young man didn’t panic, in fact, he sprang into action. The young man was a soldier and used his combat training to help stabilize the man and keep traffic diverted while they waited for emergency crews to arrive. “Those skills we use down range are just as good here to save a life,” said the soldier.

Thanks the soldier’s efforts the father of four is recovering. He suffered from a broken rib and a collapsed lung, but thanks to the fast actions of a brave young man, he’ll live to ride again. It goes to show that even something as horrible as a serious accident can’t slow down the heroic efforts of our citizens.
