An elderly Colorado Springs man got what was probably one of the biggest shocks of his long life as he slept soundly last Friday. Around 1am the 89-year-old was jolted awake by a loud crash. When he entered his living room, or at least what was left of it, he found an enormous hole in the wall and a vehicle parked where his couch used to be. “Thank goodness nobody was sitting on the sofa… The truck ran right over it,” the man calmly recalled.
It all started when the Colorado Springs Police Department started a pursuit with a pickup truck that was speeding through a parking lot on the city’s southwest side. During the pursuit the pickup clipped a city-owned sign – it wouldn’t be the last thing he ran into.
The truck driver managed to elude police, but not for long. When they caught back up to him, he’d already smashed into the elderly man’s house. According to police, the truck was ‘entirely inside the residence.’ The driver of the truck, however, had fled the scene. Police are still searching for him.
The owner of the house would definitely like to find the driver, as well, and has some choice words for him. “What I could say to him is, ‘Whatever your problem is, why don’t you just turn yourself in? Let people know who you are so I can at least take advantage of your insurance.'” Until then the man is taking the accident in stride. He says that he built nearly everything inside the home and is ready to do it all again.
