It almost sounds like the plot to a movie – a high speed police chase in pursuit of a prison escapee. But while exciting headlines were splashed across news sites, the chase was incredibly dangerous for those involved, and like many others, ended in a serious accident.
It all started Thursday evening when police attempted to pull a man over for speeding. The officers had no idea that they would all be speeding very soon. The man they pulled over had a long criminal history. He’d escaped from prison twice, once in 2005 and again in 2009. Since his latest escape he’d had a warrant out for his arrest, and he had no intention of going back to prison.
When he was pulled over he tried to give officers false information. When that didn’t work, he hit the gas. He led police on a high speed pursuit that exceeded speeds of 100mph. Despite smashing into another car, he continued to speed down Highway 24. The chase was destined to end in an accident… and it did.
In an attempt to avoid spike strips, the escapee hit a curb and ran over the median. There he crashed into yet another car and finally came to a stop. He tried to flee on foot but was quickly caught. Fortunately despite several accidents at incredibly high speeds, no one was seriously injured and the man was safely in police custody before the day was over.
