Colorado Springs police report that numerous individuals sustained injuries in a two-vehicle accident on Academy Boulevard, just south of Palmer Park Boulevard, that occurred at about 10:40 p.m. on Sunday, August 30.
When the vehicles collided, five individuals suffered significant injuries. At least one of those five people was not wearing a seat belt. A total of eight individuals sustained some type of injury, according to KKTV News. Police suspect that driving under the influence of alcohol and excessive speed were allegedly contributing factors in the crash. Police say that it is possible that the two drivers were racing when the vehicles collided.
Charges of Vehicular Assault
Officers arrested one adult male motorist for vehicular assault, according to the police report.
The southbound lanes of Academy Boulevard did not re-open until 5:15 a.m. the next morning, more than six hours after the crash.
Investigators with the Major Accident Unit continue to work on the case.
