Barkley Dale Heuser (1951–2024) was a lifelong resident of Colorado Springs whose life was defined by integrity, joy, and unwavering devotion to his family, clients, and community. Born on November 23, 1951, to Dr. Gordon Heuser and Sara McKinsey Heuser, Barkley’s roots in Southern Colorado ran deep.
A graduate with honors from Wasson High School and Colorado College, Barkley carried his commitment to excellence into every stage of his life. He earned his law degree from Golden Gate University in San Francisco and went on to build a distinguished legal career. As co-founder of Heuser & Heuser, alongside his brother Gordon, Barkley became known as an exceptional trial lawyer respected for his skill, integrity, and compassion. His work changed lives, and his dedication to his clients was matched only by his commitment to mentoring the next generation of attorneys. He was a founding member and president of the Legacy Society, an organization devoted to guiding young lawyers.
Barkley’s passion for life extended far beyond the courtroom. A lifelong sports enthusiast, he especially loved baseball and competed in numerous marathons and triathlons. That same competitive spirit, determination, and heart defined the way he approached both personal and professional challenges.
Above all, Barkley was a family man. His greatest joy was the time he spent with his wife, children, grandchildren, and extended family. Known for his warmth, humor, and famously “crazy” songs, Barkley had a gift for bringing light and laughter to every gathering. He is survived by his wife, Diane; his children, Brennan and Kristen; and his grandchildren, Matthew, Audrey, and Makenzie. He also leaves behind his brothers, Charles, David, and Gordon; his sister, Sara; his cousin, Mary Lee Parker; and many nieces, nephews, and friends who will forever cherish his memory.
Barkley’s life was a testament to kindness, perseverance, and joy. His legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched through his service to clients, his mentorship of young attorneys, and his steadfast love for family and friends.
