Heuser & Heuser Injury Lawyers Join the Fight Against Kidney Disease

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO — Gordon Heuser, an active member of the Colorado Springs community and co-chair of the 10th Annual Southern Colorado Kidney Walk, was the presenting sponsor of the event held on September 29, 2024, at Memorial Park. Through his leadership and personal journey as a kidney transplant recipient, Gordon has become a beacon of hope and awareness for kidney health across the region.

The Southern Colorado Kidney Walk, organized by the National Kidney Foundation of Colorado and New Mexico, brought together hundreds of participants to support those affected by kidney disease. The event featured a host of activities, including a vendor fair, music, team t-shirt contests, and more, making it a day of fun and solidarity.

Gordon’s commitment to this cause is deeply personal. A decade ago, he received a life-saving kidney transplant from his brother, an experience that transformed his outlook and spurred his dedication to the kidney health community. The bond with his brother and the support of his family became a cornerstone of his journey, reinforcing the importance of loved ones during life’s most challenging moments. “Every day for the last 10 years has been a gift, a chance to make a difference,” said Gordon. “Being involved with the National Kidney Foundation and the Kidney Walk is my way of paying it forward, ensuring others have the support and resources they need.”

Under Gordon’s leadership, Heuser & Heuser, L.L.P., the law firm where he is a partner, raised $3,596  to aid the foundation’s mission. Heuser & Heuser, L.L.P. also had over 700 people in attendance, also making it the biggest walk the law firm has ever had.

Overall, the event raised $92,000, surpassing their goal of $77,000 for this year and last year’s total of $88,000.

“The funds we raise stay local, providing critical resources and support for our friends and neighbors dealing with kidney disease,” Gordon emphasized. “Our goal is to not only raise funds but also to raise awareness about the importance of kidney health.”

Through his work on the board of the National Kidney Foundation of Colorado and New Mexico, Gordon continues to advocate for policy changes, drive innovation in transplantation, and support families affected by kidney disease. His inspiring journey and relentless advocacy are instrumental in the fight to improve the lives of kidney patients.

The Southern Colorado Kidney Walk stands as a testament to the power of community and the impact one individual can have in the lives of many. As Gordon stated, “I hope that in the next five to ten years, we can put the National Kidney Foundation out of business because kidney disease will be cured.”

“I am happy to announce that the 2024 Southern Colorado Kidney Walk will make over $92,000 this year,” said Development Manager Jackie Hahn. “That’s the highest amount the walk has ever raised and we are still getting donations today.  It is because of Heuser & Heuser’s participation and help.  We are so appreciative of everything you have done in support of the NKF and the patients and families in Southern Colorado.”

Frequently Asked Questions

There are a variety of things we look at when evaluating your case and determining its value. We look at how the accident occurred. We look at what sort of injuries you sustained. Do you have a permanent injury that will last the rest of your life? Are you going to have future medical bills? We look at lost wages. Did you lose your job? If you have permanent work restrictions as a result of the accident, you may not be able to find a job very easily in the future. These are some of the factors that we look at in evaluating a claim. Every case is unique and different. That’s why at our law firm, every case gets personal attention from the lawyer when it comes time to evaluate.

Insurance companies are in business for a reason: to make money. Anytime they are paying money on a claim, it means less money to their bottom line. They have literally hundreds of adjusters and hundreds of lawyers who are on their side trying to figure out how to prevent money from leaving their checkbooks. Quite frankly, you do need a lawyer to help you through this because your lawyer will make sure you’re properly compensated.

Cases settle before going to trial 80 to 90 percent of the time. However, that doesn’t mean there’s not a lot of work involved in getting a case settled outside of court. Sometimes you have to file a lawsuit and do a lot of what I call “legal maneuvering” to get a case settled. That means we take depositions from witnesses to the accident, from police officers, and from your doctors. But, yes, most cases will settle prior to trial.

We do get good results for our clients. We have settled hundreds, if not thousands, of cases where we’ve had large settlements. We’ve had substantial verdicts. We go to the mat for our clients if necessary. We’ll appeal cases. We’ll do whatever it takes to make sure our client is taken care of.
