On July 9, at about 6 p.m., dispatchers sent Colorado Springs officers to a multi-vehicle crash in the 4300 block of North Academy Boulevard.
Chain Reaction Collision
An investigation revealed that a 64-year-old female motorist turned a 2002 Mitsubishi Galant right to North Academy Boulevard from Montebello Drive. The Galant collided with a 2003 VW Golf northbound on Academy. The Galant then spun out of control and crossed the center median and into the southbound lanes of North Academy Boulevard, where it collided with three southbound vehicles.
Firefighters with the Colorado Springs Fire Department extricated the Galant’s driver from the vehicle. Emergency personnel transported her to an area hospital for treatment of serious, non-life threatening injuries. Two other individuals also required transport to area hospitals due to minor injuries.
The driver of the Galant received citations for careless driving and no proof of insurance. Although the investigation into this accident is preliminary, victims injured in traffic accidents do have recourse in Colorado’s civil courts when it is reasonable to claim that the another person’s negligence caused the injuries. In certain cases, careless driving constitutes evidence of negligent conduct.
It is possible in certain cases to file litigation that seeks compensation for medical expenses, pain-and-suffering and lost wages. Often, a settlement occurs without a trial.
