A report from the Colorado Springs Police Department provides details of an early morning traffic accident involving a pedestrian.
At approximately 1:50 a.m. on July 25, officers went to the 4600 block of El Camino Drive near Austin Bluffs Parkway and North Academy Boulevard in response to a report of an accident. Efforts to revive a male pedestrian were unsuccessful.
The driver of the vehicle involved in the fatal accident is a 21-year-old male. A preliminary investigation suggested that speed and alcohol were possible factors in the crash. As a result, CSPD officers took the motorist into custody on charges of DUI, vehicular homicide and various traffic violations. Authorities booked him into the El Paso County Jail, according to The Gazette.
Authorities turned the continuing investigation over to the department’s Major Accident Unit.
Although the investigation into this fatal pedestrian accident is only in its earliest stages, Colorado state law offers victims of negligent conduct a means for seeking redress in civil court. It is often possible for victims to seek monetary damages for medical hills, pain-and-suffering and lost wages. Survivors of deceased victims often seek damages for loss of companionship and burial expenses.
