Heuser & Heuser, LLP Announces Winner of the 2025 Practical Future Scholarship

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado—Heuser & Heuser, LLP is proud to announce Ryan Nelson of Colorado Springs as the winner of the firm’s inaugural Practical Future Scholarship. The scholarship was created to support Southern Colorado residents pursuing practical career paths through either military service or trade education.
The award reflects Heuser & Heuser’s belief that the trades and the military are not only career options, but essential pillars of opportunity, discipline, and long-term stability. The firm’s leadership saw a gap in available scholarships for individuals choosing these routes and designed the Practical Future Scholarship to close it.
“Our goal with this scholarship is to recognize individuals making clear, practical plans for their future,” said Brennan D. Heuser, Partner at Heuser & Heuser, LLP. “We want to back people who are investing in themselves, their families, and their communities through paths that often do not receive the recognition they deserve.”
About the Winner
Ryan Nelson, a Colorado native, husband, and father of three, impressed the selection committee with his detailed plan to transition into the skilled trades. A year ago, Nelson made the decision to become an electrician, seeking a career with long-term demand and opportunities for professional growth.
With the help of his brother-in-law, he connected with Herron Electric in Colorado Springs and began working full-time in August 2024. Since then, he has advanced quickly in his training and is excelling as a first-year apprentice at the Independent Electrical Contractors of Southern Colorado (IEC). He currently holds a 95% average in class and recently placed second in the IEC’s 2025 Wire Off Competition for first-year apprentices.
IEC and the Value of Apprenticeship
IEC of Southern Colorado is part of a national organization offering a rigorous apprenticeship model that combines classroom instruction with full-time paid work. Students attend class one evening a week while working as apprentices during the day, providing an “earn while you learn” approach. This structure appeals to high school graduates, career changers, and experienced apprentices alike, giving them immediate employment, practical training, and a clear path to licensure.
For Nelson, this program is the foundation for his career. His short-term goal is to complete IEC’s four-year program, log the 8,000 required field hours, and pass the journeyman exam. His long-term goal is to earn a master electrician license, start his own company, and build a team defined by integrity, quality, and professionalism. Nelson also plans to give back to the community through charitable efforts once his business is established.
Supporting Alternative Education and Trades
The Practical Future Scholarship highlights Heuser & Heuser’s commitment to supporting educational paths that are often overlooked. College is not the only route to success, and military service or skilled trades can provide structure, training, and lifelong stability.
“Trade schools and military service are the backbone of our communities,” said Heuser. “They produce people with real skills and real discipline who contribute every day. Our firm was built on those values, and we are proud to support others who embody them.”

Frequently Asked Questions
How Do I Know What My Injury Case Is Worth in Colorado Springs?
There are a variety of things we look at when evaluating your case and determining its value.
We look at how the accident occurred: How did someone else’s carelessness lead to the accident? Did your actions also contribute to the crash?
We also look at what sort of injuries you sustained: Do you have a permanent injury that will last the rest of your life? Are you going to have future medical bills?
We look at lost wages: Did you lose your job? If you have permanent work restrictions due to the accident, you may not be able to find a job very easily in the future.
These are only some of the factors that we look at in evaluating a claim. You may have additional losses to account for in a claim, and sometimes additional evidence or expert witnesses will be needed to support an evaluation.
At Heuser & Heuser, LLP, we can identify those factors during a free case evaluation, during which you tell us your story so we can take the first step in building a legal strategy at no financial risk to you.
Every case is unique and different. That’s why our lawyers at Heuser & Heuser, LLP give each case personal attention during case reviews and evaluations for potential claims.

Why is it Important to Hire a Lawyer for a Personal Injury Claim in Colorado Springs?
Insurance companies are in business for a reason: to make money.
Anytime the insurance company is paying money on a claim, it means less money to their bottom line. They have literally hundreds of adjusters and hundreds of lawyers who are on their side trying to figure out how to prevent money from leaving their checkbooks.
Quite frankly, you do need a lawyer to help you through this because your lawyer will stand up for your interests and seek proper compensation on your behalf.
