CO Springs Attorney & Army Vet Reflects on 3-Year Anniversary of Afghan Evacuation
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado – As the world marks the third anniversary of the Afghanistan evacuation, the story of Brennan Heuser’s involvement in Operation Digital Dunkirk continues to shine as an inspiring example of courage and collaboration. In August 2021, amid the chaotic withdrawal of U.S. forces from Afghanistan, Heuser worked tirelessly to assist in the safe evacuation of his Afghan colleague, Afzal Afzali, and his family from Kabul.
Teaming up with Scott Sadler of Arlington, VA, and leveraging connections within U.S. Special Operations, the Department of Defense, the State Department, and veteran networks, Heuser played a pivotal role in navigating the complex logistics of the evacuation. Their efforts ensured the safe passage of Afzal, his wife, two children, and four other children who had become separated from their mother, through perilous routes circumventing Taliban checkpoints.
Reflecting on the mission, Heuser remarked, “This was a team effort. We were committed to ensuring the safety of Afzal and his family, and I am grateful for the support from everyone involved.”
Heuser enlisted in the U.S. Army after college, where he served as a PSYOP Sergeant in an AIRBORNE unit. He deployed to both Afghanistan and Pakistan under the U.S. Special Operations Command and he speaks Farsi and Dari.
